[ELTeCS_PERU]

From the Input to Output hypotheses: Application and assessment in the classrooms
Lima, Perú 21st December 2013
UNIVERSIDAD DE CIENCIAS Y HUMANIDADES
Block B floor 3. Time: 3pm-4:30
Carmen Caceda, Ph.D.

BIODATA
Carmen Caceda began teaching English as a foreign language in Peru in 1982. She later trained
EFL pre-service and in-service trainees. Moving to the US, she began teaching Spanish and
training ESL/bilingual trainees. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Western Oregon
University, teaching methodology and culture classes.

This workshop pursues three objectives. First, participants will experience some activities where the input (Krashen, 1986) and the output (Swain, 1985, 1995) hypothesis are made presented. Second, participants will reflect on the rationale behind the hypotheses to have a sound understanding of their classroom application. Third, participants will design at least two activities where the output hypothesis is present.

[ELTeCS_PERU] IATEFL-PERU ELT DECEMBER EVENT

Looking back and looking forward: Reflective ELT teaching/learning

As the year 2013 comes to a close, it is crucial that we, ELT practitioners, reflect on our own professional development (i.e., what we have learned from being in the field) (Erlanson & Beach, 2008; Schön 1991; Underhill, 1999). It is also essential that we learn to counteract the deficit perspective attached to our profession, especially in times of competition. Thus, this interactive session pursues three objectives. First participants will share their strengths achieved during the current academic year as well as their areas of growth. Second, the presenter and the participants will outline ways to overcome the challenges that they may face when teaching (e.g., when there are limited resources available). Finally, the presenter and the participants will devise a professional development checklist catering to their unique teaching contexts.

[ELTeCS_PERU] SUSI Scholarships [2 Attachments]

Dear ELTeCS PERU Members

Once more the American Embassy is Peru is asking for submissions of candidates for their 2014 Study of the United States Institutes, which run in June and July every year.

I can tell you (I was a SUSI scholar this year) that the organization, and specially the learning experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I am attaching the documentation so you can apply.

If you have any questions, please, approach the US Embassy at the email given in the documents or visit their web page. If you want an insight from me, just let me know and I can tell you all I know. I am very enthusiatic about this, and hope this time our country also gets to send scholars. This year we were three who went to different Institutes in universities in the US. I was sent to Louisville, Kentucky and liked it a lot.
Good luck.

[ELTeCS_PERU] FCE Prep Course at UDEP Lima

FCE preparation Course

The University of Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE) is an internationally recognised qualification for non-native speakers of English at the Upper Intermediate level. The course aims at sitting the exam in the June 2014 Exam Session at UDEP Campus Lima.
The complete preparation is divided into a Summer Term (2014-0) and a regular term (2014-1). During the Summer Term, the course will be given on an everyday basis, with two-hour sessions. The classes will concentrate on both the development of all language skills and the practice of past papers in preparation for the exam. It is required to pass a test of English before enrolling.
The candidates who pass the FCE Exam can use it in many different ways. One of them is the validation of all levels of the Language Centre towards graduation for both Bachelor and Licenciatura. Another advantage of the certificate is that it is used to demonstrate proficiency in English when looking for employment because it is recognised all over the world. Also, the FCE Certificate is valid for life.
