In honor of March being Women's History Month, this American Culture webinar will focus on women in the United States and their fight for equal rights. After the U.S. history lesson that will chronicle the women's suffrage movement to modern day, we will discuss issues facing women around the world and how to address these topics in the classroom. Cultural Affairs Officer Melissa Schumi Jones of the U.S. Embassy in Peru and Senior English Language Fellow Rae Roberts will share their thoughts and teacher insights on this fascinating subject.

               Language Office for the Andean Region at the U.S. Embassy in Lima.

Who:      Melissa Schumi Jones, Cultural Affairs Officer.
               Ms. Schumi Jones is a Cultural Affairs Officer at the Embassy of the
               United States of America in Lima, Peru. Prior to her arriving in Peru in
               October 2011, she served as Vice Consul at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta,
               Indonesia. Ms. Schumi Jones joined the U.S. Department of State in 2002
               and spent six years at its headquarters in Washington, D.C. Ms. Schumi
               Jones holds a Bachelor's degree from Smith College in Northampton, MA
               and a Master's degree in International Affairs from the George Washington
               University in Washington, D.C.  She speaks Spanish, Italian, and Indonesian.

               Rae Roberts, Senior English Language Fellow.
               Mrs. Roberts is the Senior English Language Fellow based Lima, Peru.
               She has worked in the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, and China.
               Mrs. Roberts has provided teacher training in 10 countries.

Cambridge exams are recognised around the world by universities, employers and national education authorities.
Every year, nearly 1.5 million people take a Cambridge exam to improve their employment prospects, seek further education and prepare for international travel or living abroad.
The Post Graduate School Universidad Nacional del Santa offers three Cambridge English Exam preparation courses focused on exam techniques and strategies. Courses are designed around your needs and requirements.
 With attention and support from your trainer you can choose to prioritise the areas you want to work on from speaking, grammar, listening, vocabulary, writing and reading.
The following ones are the International Examination Preparation courses

Cambridge English: Key (KET)

Cambridge English: Key, also known as Key English Test (KET), is a basic level qualification that shows you can use English to communicate in simple situations. It shows you have made a good start in learning English.
 

Cambridge English: Preliminary (PET)

Cambridge English: Preliminary, also known as Preliminary English Test (PET), is an intermediate level qualification. It shows you are able to use your English language skills for work, study and travel.
 

Cambridge English: First (FCE)

Cambridge English: First, also known as First Certificate in English (FCE), is an upper-intermediate level qualification. It proves you can use everyday written and spoken English for work or study purposes.

Entrance test (Examen de Clasificación-no requiere pago alguno)

To join a Cambridge exam preparation course you will need to complete an entrance testwhich is totally free, there’s no need to pay anything at all

The CEUPS of the Faculty of Language Arts of San Marcos University is starting a third group of students of the Diploma in English Language Teaching.
 
Ten courses in four modules which may be taken and certified independently.
 
Starting course: ELT Proficiency I
Starting date: April 1st.

This webinar for English teachers will explore several ways to encourage students to produce more output in writing. The presentation will include activities appropriate for beginner-, intermediate-, and advanced-level students to practice writing skills.

Who:      Edison R. Santacruz, English teacher and Head of the English
               Department at Pontifical Catholic University in Quito.
               
Edison has a B.A. in Applied Linguistics from the Pontifical Catholic
               University of Ecuador and recently completed an M.A. in Educative Research.
               He has taught English for twenty five years in primary, secondary and
               university levels.
             
               Stephanie Hanson, Senior English Language Fellow in Quito.
               Stephanie has an M.A. in TESOL from the University of Illinois.  She works
               on teacher training and professional development in various English
               programs in Ecuador.
