[ELTeCS_PERU] Teaching with Technology
Dear colleagues
Last Saturday I attended an event organized by OUP and SBS where the main speaker Mr. Gordon Lewis gave a very thought-provoking talk on Strategies for Teaching with Technology.
Some of the interesting issues he mentioned were the importance of being precise about the goals and beliefs about education in the institution where technology is going to be used so as to integrate it in the classroom plan. Teachers and students need to know exactly what they want from technology as it is not enough to buy laptops or whiteboards if the institution does not know how long will they be using the IT tools, what the expected effect will be and, most important, how the impact of IT in education will be measured.
Suggestions for the use of IT in the Writing process and the development of a Community of Practice, a place where groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly, were also made and the distinction between communities of practice and social networks was also mentioned. Some highlights of the presentation are provided at mumimaria.blogspot.com as well as some Internet pages that I visited to supplement the information.
In sum, it was a very interesting and useful seminar, it was a pity it was scheduled last when so many participants were tired and eager to go home.
