Skills for the 21st Century: Becoming Citizens of Tomorrow’s World Today Somebody once said that the only constant in teaching is change, and the more flexible we are in our understanding and use of technologies, pedagogy and our content areas, the more prepared we will be to integrate and teach with them. But… is it only with this knowledge as a foundation that teachers can be 21st century-ready? It is our duty nowadays to help our students connect learning with real life and to provide them with the necessary skills to prepare them for success and, as educators, we are determined to help all students reach their full potential. This is no small challenge, and it is our responsibility to prepare ourselves for the unique demands of the 21st century. KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Jorge Aguilar-Sanchez Dr. Jorge Aguilar-Sánchez is a Ph.D. in Hispanic Linguistics (Indiana University 2009), Ph.D. in TESOL and Applied Linguistics (Indiana University 2009). He is Professor at Department of Global Languages and Cultures at University of Dayton. He has published several articles in research design, sociolinguistics and teaching methodology. Dr. Aguilar-Sánchez is a native of Costa Rica who enjoys teaching and foreign/second language teacher preparation. His research agenda include a multidisciplinary approach that draws from the fields of Psychology, Second Language Acquisition, Linguistics, Pedagogy, Instructional Systems Technology, and Computer Science. His latest projects include work on sample size planning for sociolinguistics research, student engagement in and outside of the classroom with the aid of technology, instructed second language acquisition and its pedagogical approaches.
