Five ways to use speed dating to improve speaking
This webinar will discuss different ways to use speed dating (the traditional 3-2-1 exercise) in your class to focus on different speaking tasks: ice breakers/simply getting students to talk, improving fluency, practicing specific grammar or vocabulary, practicing presentations, or discussing a reading or homework. The goal is to teach your students one activity that you can then vary to elicit different skills and also, to provide them with more student-centered, yet guided talk time.

About Ta
Ta Hintze is an ESL/EFL professor and teacher trainer. She holds a Master's degree in TESOL and a Master's degree in Teaching Social Studies, grades 7-12. She has 15 years of teaching experience in the USA, Syria and currently in Mexico as an English Language Fellow, a program sponsored by the United States Department of State. Although she is primarily a university academic English language teacher, she is very interested in using service learning projects to create opportunities for more relevant English language teaching and learning, and to increase collaboration among teachers of different departments. Ta speaks Spanish, German and French, she reads a great deal of history and science fiction, and she is from New York.

[ELTeCS_PERU] Fwd: Shakespeare Lives in 2016: Free Online Course | MOOC Exploring English: Shakespeare

Exploring English: Shakespeare
An invitation to explore the life, work and legacy of William Shakespeare
For the attention of
Cesar Klauer
Universidad de Piura

Dear Mr. Klauer::

2016 will mark 400 years since William Shakespeare’s death. It is a unique moment to celebrate his genius and the inspiration he has given to billions of people through the ages.

We want to invite you to be a part of Shakespeare Lives, a worldwide programme of activity to celebrate Shakespeare’s work and his enduring global influence and impact. The first activity which we encourage you, your colleagues or your students to join is a Shakespeare MOOC.

Our free, six-week online course will look at the life, works and legacy of William Shakespeare, while giving participants the chance to practise their English language skills.

The first week will look at Shakespeare’s life and times, using two short documentaries to take you on Shakespeare’s journey from his birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon to the Globe Theatre in London. For the rest of the course, we will look closely at a different play each week. Shakespearean actors from around the world will help us explain and explore the universal themes in Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing, The Tempest and Macbeth.

Our video tutor will guide you through the course and look at the legacy of words and phrases that Shakespeare introduced to the English language. Short quizzes will check your understanding and you’ll be asked to share your ideas and opinions on the topics Shakespeare raises.

The course will be run in partnership with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.

The material is designed for non-native English speakers who have studied English to around intermediate level (approximately B1 on the CEFR)

Start date: 11th January 2016

Please feel free to share this message with your colleagues or students so that they can also join this interesting online course and that they can also become as enthusiastic as we all are about Shakespeare Lives.

If you have any questions about the Shakespeare Lives programme, our Arts Manager Luisa Michelsen (Luisa.Michelsen@britishcouncil.org) is available to assist you. You may also visit the Shakespeare Lives website for full information about the international programme.
