Creating a Positive Learning Environment
One thing all inspiring teachers surely have in common is that they all believe in their students’ ability to excel. Teacher attitudes and perceptions can have a great impact on student performance and affect. As classroom teachers, it is of vital importance that we foster learning and growth through encouragement and the creation of a positive learning environment where students feel both safe and encouraged to challenge themselves, take risks, and be their true selves. This presentation will explore the effects of positivity and encouragement on student attitude and classroom performance.

About Maggie
Maggie Steingraeber currently lives in Lima, Peru as an English Language Fellow, a US Department of State funded program. Her passion for language and culture began with a high school exchange program that took her from the Midwestern state of Wisconsin to the foothills of the Andes in Mendoza, Argentina. That experience sparked her desire to continue studying Spanish, in addition to French and Chinese, and pursue a career in international education. She holds a BA in Linguistics from the University of Wisconsin and a MA in TESOL from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. She specializes in curriculum design and materials development as well as teacher training. She has previously worked as a teacher and teacher trainer in the United States, China, India, Argentina, and Chile with academic institutions, such as Clark University, Shandong University of Science and Technology, Nootan Education Group, Ahmedabad Management Association, and Universidad de Talca.
