[ELTeCS_PERU] Pronunciation Course

Dear colleagues

On behalf of Customized Training Services, I am sending information about our Pronunciation Course. Attending former participants' suggestions we have extended the course and now it consists of three modules:

1) Building Awareness and Concern for Pronunciation
2) Mastering English Pronunciation and Assessment of Participant's Pronunciation
3) Teaching Pronunciation in English

The course starts on July 2nd and will be run every Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Constructing & Implementing a Peer Coaching Program

This webinar will focus on how create and implement a peer-coaching program that is applicable in a plethora of academic setting. Reseach has shown that the more traditional forms of professional development, such as workshops and conferences, are not as effective because these methods do not focus on collaboration, feedback and reflection, which are necessary in order to effectively improve one's teaching practice. We will share how we have implemented our own coaching and mentoring programs and the importance of creating a trusting community where teachers are respected for their expertise as well as their ability to successfully coach their peers in order to improve instruction and student outcomes on a continuous basis

Webinar on English teaching, organized by the Regional English Language Office for the Andean Region at the U.S Embassy in Lima.

Who:      Deanna Paglia, English Language Fellow
Deanna Paglia, the English Language Fellow in Arequipa, Peru. After graduating from Smith College in 1998 with a B.A. in Political Theory and Spanish, she attended Middlebury College where she earned her M.A. in Spanish Literature, Language and Culture.  In 2005, after having taught Spanish in Massachusetts, she moved to Oaxaca, Mexico, where she taught ESL and was Dean of the English Department at La Universidad de la Sierra Sur.  In 2008 she moved to Colorado and began another masters degree while continuing to teach Spanish.  She graduated from the University of Colorado – Boulder in 2010 with her Master’s in Linguistically Diverse Education (ESL).

Lourdes Talavera, Academic Coordinator / English Teacher
Lourdes Talavera holds a degree in Education from Universidad Nacional de San Agustin in Arequipa, Peru, postgraduate studies in English Teaching at the same university, a M.A degree in Teaching English as a  Foreign Language (TEFL) from Universidad de Piura (UDEP), the Michigan Proficiency Diploma, the FCE and CAE certificates from Cambridge University. She has lectured for APIA and PEARSON in Arequipa, and for  Peru – TESOL in Arequipa (twice), Tacna (twice), Trujillo, Tarapoto, Lima and Chiclayo. She attended TESOL Conventions in the U. S (New York and Colorado). She is currently an Academic Coordinator at Centro Cultural Peruano Norteamericano–Arequipa and a teacher at Thomas Jefferson ELT  Program.
