Diploma in English Language Teaching - Virtual Modality

The Faculty of Language Arts takes great pleasure in launching this ELT Training Program for the benefit of both inexperienced and experienced teachers.

The coordinator of the program and the team of tutors is Prof. Manuel Salas(www.masaca.pe), and the bibliography, both mandatory and supplementary, belongs to PEARSON Longman.
 
The program consists in six courses organized in three modules to be completed in six months, making up a total of 360 hours. The participant decides where and when to study with the help of synchronous and asynchronous support.

By the end of the program, the participant will have achieved the following competencies:
  • Knowledge of the necessary principles for the teaching of vocabulary, grammar and linguistic skills.
  • Application of professional techniques for the planning, performance and evaluation of successful classes.
  • Use of digital and virtual technologies for the organization of individual and group activities.

Join us for the next IATEFL webinar which will take place this Saturday 22 February at 15:00 GMT.

  Mike McCarthy will give us his insights into ‘Spoken Fluency Revisited’.

Mike is well-known for his work on the CANCODE spoken English corpus project, and the one-million word CANBEC spoken business English corpus as well as the English Profile project.

In the webinar Mike will cover the linking of speaking turns to create mutual ‘flow’ and look at the research on determining a learner’s competence and level in spoken interaction based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). The concept of fluency in interactive speaking is considered to be a ‘fifth skill’ and the webinar aims to give participants a better understanding of what learners know and can do at different levels of language.

Mike McCarthy is Emeritus Professor of Applied Linguistics, University of Nottingham, UK, Adjunct Professor of Applied Linguistics, University of Limerick, Ireland and Visiting Professor in Applied Linguistics at Newcastle University, UK. He is author/co-author/editor of 50 books (including Touchstone, Viewpoint, the Cambridge Grammar of English, English Grammar Today, Grammar for Business, From Corpus to Classroom, The Routledge Handbook of Corpus Linguistics and several titles in The English Vocabulary in Use series) and more than 90 academic papers. He is co-director (with Ronald Carter) of the 5-million word CANCODE spoken English corpus project, and the one-million word CANBEC spoken business English corpus. His current research involves the creation and analysis of spoken learner corpora in connection with the English Profile project, with special reference to the development of spoken fluency. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.  He has lectured on language and language teaching in 43 countries and has been actively involved in language teaching and applied linguistics for 47 years.

Cambridge English Language Assessment invites you to join us for our new webinar - Changes to Cambridge English: First and First for Schools from 2015.

This webinar is aimed at teachers who are preparing candidates, or are going to prepare candidates, for the Cambridge English: First (or First for Schools) exam. It will detail the three key changes that will go live in January 2015:
  • The exam will consist of four papers instead of five.
  • The new exam will be approximately 30 minutes shorter than previously.
  • The exam will feature new tasks and testing focuses in the Writing and Speaking papers.
  • The presenter will explain these changes, and provide ideas on how to prepare students for the new test.
