We would really appreciate your help and participation in the following Survey:Use of the learners’ own-language in the English language classroom: a surveyTo what extent do English language teachers make use of the learners’ own language in the English language classroom? Alternatively, to what extent do teachers maintain an 'English-only' classroom? Do teachers allow or encourage your learners to use their own language in class? If so, why and in what kind of ways? And if not, again, why? Northumbria University and the Open University in the UK, in conjunction with the British Council, are carrying out a survey into the use of the learners' own language in the English language classroom. The survey asks teachers about their experiences of, and views about, the use of learners’ own language in their teaching. We are interested in finding out what English teachers do (or don’t do), the activities they use, and the reasons for this. The survey is therefore for English language teachers. It should take approximately 20 minutes to complete and answers are completely confidential. (Note: ‘English language teachers’ is a deliberately broad criteria for taking part in the project and includes, for example, those who teach EFL, ESL, EAP and so on; primary, secondary and tertiary level teachers; those who both teach language and train teachers, who teach and manage etc.).

Stephanie Hanson is the Senior English Language Fellow based in Quito,

Zarina Subhan MA Applied Linguistics and TESOL,

BSc Pharmacology - Chemistry,

Zarina’s first degree was in Pharmacology-Chemistry (a dual honours subject); she also studied Education and did post-graduate MA studies in Applied Linguistics and TESOL.

Zarina is an experienced teacher and teacher trainer. She has taught at all levels and in both private and government institutions in nine different countries (Greece, Czecho-Slovakia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka and China) as well as in the UK, where she now lives and works.

Zarina specialised early on in her career into EAP, combining her scientific and educational qualifications. From this developed an interest in providing made-to-measure materials, which later led to materials that could be used in environmental awareness, health training and governance projects in developing countries. Since 2000 she has been involved in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), materials writing, training trainers and teachers in facilitation techniques and teaching methodology.

Her materials have been published in Japan and Sri Lanka. In Japan, her listening activities were published by the Kobe Education Authority as junior high school teachers’ resources to complement the government text book and her voice was used in the recordings for the audio resources. In Sri Lanka, her training materials were published by the German Technical Coorporation (GIZ) for the development of governance, organisational skills and English language of public servants. Her voice was also recorded for these training materials, in addition it was used for recordings of a textbook tapescript in Czecho-Slovakia (as it was then).

Zarina currently works at the University of Chichester and is involved in training primary, secondary school and tertiary teachers in Current English Language Teaching Practice; English Cultural Understanding; ELT Methodology; Aspects of British Culture and Language Skills; Curriculum Design and Lesson Planning; primary education for CLIL specialists.

As well as delivering and designing teaching materials at the University of Chichester, Zarina is the head of academic leadership and coordinates other trainers who work on international teacher training courses in Continuing Professional Development, mentors new trainers, assists the director with visiting delegations, inspections and interviewing of new staff to the department as well as delivering overseas training on behalf of the University of Chichester.

Because of her experience in a variety of countries, Zarina sees English as a tool for development. Thus she trains teacher trainers in order to build their capacity, skills and confidence to use English as a tool in order to further themselves and their teachers.

With this in mind, Zarina has been asked to hold a 2-day training course for teacher trainers in Lima, on behalf of Peru-ELTNetworks –IATEFL U.K. Affiliate.She will explore what makes a good trainer and good training sessions; motivational forces that can impact on learning and improve engagement with topics; individual differences in learning and teaching that affect the trainer and trainee; the importance of the use of cognition and metacognition in teaching and training, as well as brain research into the learning process. Through these topics different activities will be experienced and analysed, allowing for discussion and reflection upon current practices in the ELT training room.

We would like to invite you to a unique “ELT + IT” Conference, sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Lima, and supported by the University of San Ignacio de Loyola. During a one-day conference on Saturday, March 3, 2012, Lewis & Clark College Professor Michael Krauss along with colleagues from Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador will share new ideas about applying information technology - with an emphasis on Web 2.0 tools - to the English language learning experience.

[ELTeCS_PERU] First Summer Workshop

On behalf of Peru-ELTNetworks-Affiliate of IATEFL UK, we want to express our deepest gratitude to the participants who attended our First Summer Workshop ‘ Teacher Development’ on January 11th, 12th, and 13th.

Our great appreciation to the Speakers : Katia Adrianzen, Yony Cárdenas, Carlos Castillo, Paul Doherty, Jean Garay, Manuel Lopez, Manuel Salas and Norma Vecorena. Great presentations!

On Friday 13th, the workshop took place at the US Embassy, where participants were able to ‘experience what a webinar is like’ alive!

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: SUMMER 2012 STUDY OF

THE UNITED STATES INSTITUTES FOR

SECONDARY SCHOOL EDUCATORS

1. SUMMARY: This note solicits candidate nominations for the Summer 2012 Study of the United States Institutes for Secondary School Educators. The deadline for candidate nominations to be received in the United States Embassy in Lima is December 30, 2011.
2. OVERVIEW OF PROGRAM:
The Office for the Study of the United States is pleased to invite candidate nominations for the summer 2012 Study of the United States Institutes for Secondary School Educators to take place over the course of six weeks beginning in mid June 2012. Two institutes for secondary educators will be offered. For this program Secondary Educators include classroom teachers, teacher trainers, curriculum developers, textbook writers, and ministry of education officials, among others.

Please note that Study of the United States Institutes are not considered Fulbright programs. This change occurred in FY 2005 when the program changed from the Fulbright American Studies Institutes to the Study of the United States Institutes.

3. INSTITUTE DESCRIPTION:
The Study of the United States Institutes for Secondary School Educators will provide two multinational groups of 30 secondary educators each with a deeper understanding of U.S. society, education, and culture, past and present. The programs will be organized around a central theme or themes in U.S. studies and will have a strong contemporary component. Through a combination of traditional, multi-disciplinary, and interdisciplinary approaches, the programs will elucidate the history and evolution of U.S. educational institutions and values. The programs also serve to illuminate contemporary political, social, and economic debates in American society.

The ultimate goal is to strengthen curricula and to improve the quality of teaching about the United States in secondary schools and other academic institutions abroad. The course will take place at the Institute for Training and Development in Amherst, MA, and the second institute will take place at California State University, Chico. As in 2011, THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY IN LIMA intends that the institute in Amherst, MA will host mainly secondary educators whose primary activities are classroom teaching while the institute in Chico, CA will host administrators (including teacher trainers, curriculum developers, textbook writers, ministry of education officials, and others). In the nomination form, posts are asked to identify which institute they feel their candidate is most suited for. This is intended for informational purposes as THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY IN LIMA retains the final decision on placement of successful candidates.

4. OTHER ESSENTIAL PROGRAM INFORMATION:
A. Program Funding: Through grants to the host institutions, The program will cover all participant costs including costs for program administration, domestic travel and ground transportation, housing and subsistence, books, cultural activities, mail, and incidentals.

B. Housing and Meal Arrangements: Typically, participants will have a private room with a shared bathroom during the residency portion (four weeks) of the institute, and will share a hotel room during the study tour (up to two weeks). Housing will usually be in college or university-owned housing. Most meals will be provided at campus facilities, though participants may have access to a kitchen to cook some meals on their own. Full details will be provided once the grants have been approved. It is important that these arrangements be made clear to nominees and that they are comfortable with such housing arrangements, particularly sharing a hotel room with another participant for up to two weeks.

C. Health Benefits: All participants will receive the Department of State's coverage of $50,000 with a $15 co-pay per office visit for the duration of the program. Pre- existing conditions are not covered.

D. Program Requirements and Restrictions: Participants are expected to participate fully in the program. They are expected to attend all lectures and organized activities, and to complete assigned readings. Family members and/or friends cannot accompany participants on any part of the program. Candidates should be made aware that this is an intensive institute and there will be little time for personal pursuits unrelated to the program. The institute should not be viewed as a research program. It is important that these requirements and restrictions be made clear to all candidates before nominations are submitted.

5. CANDIDATE DESCRIPTION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Candidates should be mid-career, typically between the ages of 30-50, highly-motivated and experienced secondary school educators. The ideal candidate will be a secondary teacher, teacher trainer, curriculum developer, textbook writer, ministry of education official, or other related professional with responsibility for secondary education who is seeking to introduce or enhance aspects of U.S. studies into his/her curricula.

B. The ideal candidate will also be an experienced professional with little or no prior experience in the United States, whose home institution is seeking to introduce aspects of U.S. studies into its curricula, to enhance and update existing courses that include information about the United States, or to offer specialized seminars/workshops for education professionals in U.S. studies or related fields. In this respect, while the nominee's professional credentials are an important consideration, an equally important factor is how participation in the institute will enhance teachings and courses about the United States at the nominee's home institution, community, or country.

C. Candidates should be willing and able to take part fully in an intensive post-graduate level academic program and study tour. While senior educators are eligible applicants, the program give first consideration to mid-career professionals and to persons who are likely to be comfortable with campus life and an active program schedule.

6. OTHER FACTORS FOR CONSIDERATION:
We invite secondary educators to nominate one candidate per institute (for up to two nominations per country: one for the teacher institute and one for the administrator institute). Please be aware that as a general rule, the program will not select more than one participant per country.

A. Post/Commission Justification: The justification statement is a critical portion of the application, as it offers the post/Commission the opportunity to provide specific reasons why the participation of a nominee is particularly desirable in terms of enhancing the study of the United States at the home institution, or more broadly, in the home country.

B. Candidate Statement: In order to get a better sense of potential participants' motivations and goals, the program requests that each candidate provide a short personal statement (application) indicating why he or she is interested in participating in the program and what he or she expects to get out of the experience. In addition, candidate statements should describe the candidate's capacity/plans to amplify the impact of the institute beyond just their own knowledge and research.

C. English Language Ability: It is imperative that all candidates demonstrate English language fluency. Institutes are rigorous and demanding programs; participants will be expected to handle substantial reading assignments in English and to be full and active participants in all seminar and panel discussions. English fluency is vital to a successful experience in the Institute, both for your participant and participants from other countries.

D. Priority Consideration: Priority will be given to candidates who have firm plans to enhance, update or develop courses and/or educational materials with a U.S. studies focus or component, who have no prior or limited experience in the United States, and who have special interest in the program subject areas as demonstrated through past scholarship, accomplishments, and professional duties.

7. NOMINATION FORMAT:
Nomination forms will be sent directly to interested candidates that comply with the requirements.

La Embajada de los Estados Unidos de América y la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú están organizando una charla con la astronauta estadounidense Ellen Baker sobre las experiencias de sus viajes al especio exterior.

La conferencia se realizará el día 28 de octubre en el Auditorio de Derecho de la Universidad Católica a las 3:00 pm hora exacta. Adjunto para su mayor información la biografía, un video donde participa la astronauta Baker, y la invitación al evento.

ELLEN S. BAKER (M.D., M.P.H.)

ASTRONAUTA DE LA NASA

Nació en Fayetteville, Carolina del Norte en 1953, pero considera Nueva York como su ciudad natal.

Estudió geología en la Universidad Estatal de Nueva York en Búfalo graduándose en 1974. Obtuvo un doctorado en medicina de la Universidad de Cornell en 1978 y una maestría en salud pública de la Escuela de Salud Pública de la Universidad de Texas en 1994.

EXPERIENCIA: Al finalizar sus estudios de medicina, la Dra. Baker se especializó en medicina interna en el Centro Científico para la Salud de la Universidad de Texas, en San Antonio.

EXPERIENCIA EN LA NASA: En 1981, luego de completar su residencia médica, la Dra. Baker se integró a la Nasa como doctora y trabajó en el Centro Espacial Johnson. La Dra. Baker fue seleccionada como astronauta en mayo de 1984. Desde entonces se ha desempeñado en varios puestos dentro de la NASA apoyando programas espaciales y de exploración. Como veterana de tres viajes espaciales, la Dra. Baker ha tenido 686 horas de vuelo en el espacio. Fue la especialista en los vuelos STS-34 en 1989, STS-50 en 1992 y STS-71 en 1995.

EXPERIENCIA EN VIAJES AL ESPACIO: STS-34 Atlantis (octubre 18-23,1989) lanzado desde el Centro Espacial Kennedy en Florida, y aterrizado en la Base Aérea Edwards en California. Durante la Misión, la tripulación desarrolló el programa Galileo para explorar Júpiter, estudió la distribución de ozono en la atmósfera y condujo varios experimentos médicos y científicos. Los objetivos de la misión se completaron en 79 orbitas de la tierra, viajando a 1.8 millones de millas durante 119 horas y 41 minutos.

STS-50 Columbia (Junio 25-July 9, 1992) fue lanzado y aterrizado en el Centro Espacial Kennedy en Florida. STS-50 fue el primer vuelo del laboratorio Microgravity de los Estados Unidos y el primer vuelo de dirección extendida orbital. Durante dos semanas la tripulación condujo experimentos científicos que incluían crecimiento de cristales, física de fluidos, dinámica de fluidos, así como ciencias biológicas y de combustión. Los objetivos de la misión se completaron en 221 orbitas de la tierra, viajando a 5.7 millones de millas durante 331 horas, 30 segundos y 4 minutos en el espacio.

STS-71 Atlantis (Junio 27-Julio 7, 1995) fue lanzado desde el Centro Espacial Kennedy con siete tripulantes y aterrizó con una tripulación de ocho. STS-71 fue el primer viaje que desembarcó en la Estación Espacial Rusa Mir y que efectuó intercambio de tripulación. La tripulación realizó varios experimentos científicos y de recolección de datos. Los objetivos de la misión se completaron en 153 orbitas de la tierra, viajando a 4.1 millones de millas durante 235 horas y 23 minutos.

1ST CLIL SEMINAR

A NEW APPROACH TO BILINGUAL EDUCATION

We have no idea of what the world will look like in five years, let alone in 50 years... Yet we are charged with preparing our students for life in that world. Moreover, what we do know is that we live in a society that is increasingly diverse, globalized, and complex and media-saturated. Such characteristics bring about a need for students to be able to communicate, function and create change personally, socially, economically and politically on personal, local, national and international levels, in both their mother tongue and in English, our global language.

21st century skills should be learned through a curriculum, which is interdisciplinary. That is, a project-based and language-based curriculum that integrates academic subjects by utilizing life skills.

This is why we need to apply CLIL

What is CLIL?

CLIL (Content and language integrated learning) has become one of the most talked about methodologies in ELT. It involves students learning subjects such as science or geography through the medium of a foreign language.

CLIL is all about integration and about students learning through collaboration, not competition. Through CLIL, students will become apt and eager to solve critical issues and hopefully make the world a better place to live in."

We believe that authentic education addresses the “whole child”, the “whole person”, and does not limit our professional development and curriculum design to workplace readiness.

Objectives:

Contribute to the body of knowledge and practice in the field of CLIL and ELT in all its diversity

Build cultural awareness, internationalisation, and language competence

Expose teachers of English to good practices and the latest developments in the area

Provide tools to prepare students for both study and work life.

Philip Ball

What is CLIL, and how does it work?

Phil Ball works for the Federation of Basque Schools (Ikastolas), based in San Sebastián. He has a degree in English Literature and Language, a PGCE in English, and an MA in Applied Linguistics from Essex University. He began teaching in the late 1970s in an English Comprehensive School, moved to be Head of English at Markham College in Lima, Peru, then taught in Oman before ending the journey in Spain, where he has lived in the Basque region since 1991. He taught Phonetics and Linguistics at the University de Deusto for six years before moving into materials writing and teacher-taining for the Basque Government and then for the Basque Federation of Schools, and has been closely involved with their successful plurilingual project, ‘Eleanitz’, now up and running since its inception in 1991. He is also a distance tutor on the Funiber MA TEFL, and wrote the CLIL module as part of the degree materials. He has been involved in several European projects, has published several CLIL-based textbooks for the Basque and Spanish curriculum. His book about his early teaching experiences in an English Comprehensive was recently published in England (‘The Hapless Teacher’s Handbook’) and he is currently working on an adjunct scheme to publish English language materials which form a support syllabus for CLIL subject teaching.

Agustina Tocalli-Beller

CLIL: Going beyond the sum of its parts

Agustina Tocalli-Beller, holds a Ph.D. in Second Language Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. She has worked and published with Dr. Jim Cummins and Dr. Merrill Swain. Her research and writing interests include CLIL, vocabulary learning, language play and socio-cultural approaches to second language acquisition. She is a teacher trainer and an educational consultant for schools and publishing companies in Latin America. She is also the author of pedagogical bilingual songs and activities for language learners as well as an author of children’s book.

Norma Bustamante

CLIL and Bilingualism: what they have in common in ELL/ELT.

Norma Bustamante is at present Director of Education of ACCRESCO, a Non Profit organization dedicated mainly to further develop education in Peru. She was Headmistress of the Colegio San Jorge de Miraflores for 6 years. Prior to her appointment as Headmistress, Norma held the posts of MYP Coordinator and IB Diploma Coordinator in two Private Schools, Davy College in Cajamarca and Casuarinas College in Lima.

Norma holds the degrees of BA in Education and MA in Linguistics for English Language Teaching, and her career of over 40 years in education has taken her from her native Peru to Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Costa Rica, Cuba, USA, France, The United Kingdom, and Turkey. She also holds a Diploma on Management and Business Administration in Education. Norma has also been Head of the Languages Department of the prestigious Instituto Pedagógico Nacional – Monterrico,in Lima, and is actively involved in the upgrading of English Teachers as a consultant and advisor in ELT.

The Role of Literary Works in the EFL Classroom

Connie Nalvarte Valdez was born in Lima, Perú. She holds a BA in Liberal Arts by Florida International University in Miami, Florida. She has passed the University of Cambridge’s Certificate of Proficiency in English. She also has a Diploma in Education granted by the Universidad de Piura and a Diploma in School Management and Administration awarded by Instituto Peruano de Administración de Empresas. She worked as an EFL teacher at Santa Margarita School, Lima for 6 years. Mrs. Nalvarte was also the English Coordinator at Vallesol School in Piura and is currently a teacher at the School of Educational Sciences at the Universidad de Piura, in which she teaches English Writing as well as American and English Literature. She is a full-time staff member at the Language Centre in the Universidad de Piura where she is also the Local Secretary for University of Cambridge EFL Examinations.

Cecilia Rosas

The What, How and Why of CLIL in the Classroom

Cecilia Rosas Delgado holds a BA in Psychology, an MA in Educational Psychology and Learning disabilities, an MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and the RSA from University of Cambridge.

She has worked for the most prestigious language schools in the country, as well as local bilingual schools, holding coordination positions for the past 12 years. Her area of expertise includes EFL, ESL, bilingual education, cross-curricular programs, early literacy, and teacher training. She has traveled in and outside of Peru giving talks regarding the most current issues in ELT.

At present, she is the English Academic Coordinator of Casuarinas College.

1.THINKING CRITICALLY IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSROOM

This interactive presentation will show case activities and strategies to develop critical thinking skills and dispositions in the ELT classroom. In addition, participants will be provided a list of useful web-and text-based resources that can be used for both language teaching and professional development in critical thinking.

2.STATEGIES FOR IMPROVING THINKING

Effective English language teaching includes not only teaching meaningful communication but also preparing students to use English for critical and creative thinking. This workshop will explore tools to broaden and deepen the questioning used in the classroom: Bloom’s taxonomy, the elements of logical thinking and the language of evaluation. Teachers can expect to leave the workshop with an understanding of how to use these tools to develop more critical and creative questioning strategies for use in their classrooms.

3.THE ART OF QUESTIONING

How often do you question your students in class? How difficult is it for your students to answer those questions? Questions are really important when teaching to develop our students’ critical thinking. Through our questions we guide our students’ reasoning and help them get where they really want to get. In this workshop we will reflect on the importance of questioning to develop CT through ELT.

REMINDER PPP EXAM:

The exams will be administered by the prestigious Universidad de Piura (UdeP). To take the PPP Qualification Exam, teachers must register with the UdeP and pay the exam fee. Only teachers who have attended no less than three learning sessions (at least one has to be a face-to-face session) will be entitled to take the PPP qualification exam. However, we encourage you to attend all the sessions, face-to-face and online. The exam will be based on three pillars: the sessions the teacher has attended, the webinars they have viewed, and the Macmillan book "Teaching Practice" by Roger Gower, Diane Phillips & Steve Walters.

Certificates will be awarded by Universidad de Piura only to all those teachers who pass the exam with a grade of eleven (11).

The deadline for the registration to take the PPP Qualification Exam is July 1st. Every teacher should send us an e-mail to: academiconsultants@macmillan.com.pe

* The exam will take place on Friday, July 22nd at 6:00 sharp at Udep P headquarters.

* For teachers from other provinces the exam will be sent by our sale representative on their next visit.

Who: David Fay, Regional English Language Officer

David Fay is the Regional English Language Officer for the Andean countries and is based in Lima, Peru. He has a M.Ed. in English Language Teaching and doctoral studies in U.S. literature. His main interests in the field are in models that integrate culture and language studies, with an emphasis on U.S. language, history and culture, and the application of information technology to the teaching and learning experience, with an emphasis on social networking. He is particularly interested in the evolution of English as a global lingua franca and the significance of this change for the classroom teacher. He has educated students and teachers in Costa Rica, Spain, Turkey, Russia, the Middle East and Central Asia.

Teacher development

To be effective members of a department or school, and in order to gain job satisfaction, teachers need to be able to manage change and develop their professional knowledge and skills. The need to change may come from outside with the introduction of a new curriculum, or a new textbook, the availability of new technology, moving to a new place of work, or from different expectations of language learning. The desire to develop may come from within, from wanting to get better at the job and be able to vary ways of working. Some teachers resist change, but the need to develop will be there all the same. The school or faculty which values its teachers will support them in their development, and the professional teacher will be able to work with others, or autonomously, to evaluate and reflect on their work. We will look at the ways other teachers have managed their professional development and identify practical ways for you to meet the needs you identify and to implement the process of development in your context of work.

Teacher appraisal

Staff appraisal is a general technique for any institution to evaluate the way that its staff contribute to the work of the organisation and to make sure that they are given the support and training necessary to enable them to work effectively and get satisfaction from their job. We will look at how to organise appraisal so that it works to the benefit of staff and institution, and how and if you could use this.

Action research

In many places teachers now carry out research adapted to their needs and concerns so that they can take more control over how they organise and implement teaching and learning in their classrooms. Appropriate and skilled use of these techniques empowers teachers and gives them a greater confidence in managing change in their context. They learn how to avoid negative influences and find effective, useful ways to encourage learning. Doing this requires more responsibility from learners and helps them in turn. We will look at methods, examples and ways that you could implement these ideas to meet needs where you work.

Webinar for English Teachers: Using Poetry in the English as a New Language Classroom

We are pleased to invite you to participate in a Webinar on English teaching methodology, organized by the US Embassy in Lima, Peru.

Abstract

English Language Specialist Vivian Leskes will lead an on-line discussion on the uses of poetry in the English language classroom. Poetry is uniquely adapted for language instruction. It deals with universal themes while also providing direct insight into a specific culture. Poetry offers students an opportunity for personal interpretation. The webinar will include student-centered techniques for interpreting poetry and for teaching reading, writing, speaking, pronunciation, and vocabulary development.

Our Speaker

Vivian Leskes Ward, English Language Specialist

Vivian Leskes Ward is an English Language Specialist with the US Department of State and Professor of ESL at Holyoke Community College, Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA, where she has worked for nineteen years and served as Chair of the Department of Language Studies. In 2008 she was an American Fulbright Senior Scholar at Irkutsk State Linguistic University (IGLU), in Irkutsk, Siberia, Russia where she lectured English teachers and modeled current methodology in language instruction in the United States. In addition to three years of teacher training work in Russia, she has conducted trainings in Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Indonesia. Professor Leskes is a student of languages as well as an English teacher. She speaks Spanish, has intermediate skills in French, and has been studying Russian since 2002. Her book of essays, Lost in Siberia, will be published by Haley's, Athol, Massachusetts at the end of 2010.

David Fay, Regional English Language Officer

David Fay is the Regional English Language Officer for the Andean Countries and is based in Lima, Peru. He has a M.Ed. in English Language Teaching and doctoral studies in U.S. literature. His main interests in the ELT field are in models that integrate culture and language studies, with an emphasis on U.S. language, history and culture, and the application of information technology to the teaching and learning experience, with an emphasis on social networking. He is particularly interested in student-teacher collaborative materials development projects that incorporate personal experience, civic responsibility, and cross-cultural understanding. He has educated students and teachers in Costa Rica, Spain, Turkey, Russia, the Middle East and Central Asia. And, he never says no to cebiche.
